About the game

A sneaky planning game set in a sleeping house. While the lights are on, you stick glow-in-the-dark stars around the rooms and charge them with a torch whose battery won't last. Then the lights go out, and you have to tiptoe to the kitchen (or the bathroom, or the playroom) and back to bed, seeing only what your stars light up as they slowly fade. Creaky floorboards, toys, the cat, dust bunnies and a robot vacuum all make noise, and too much noise wakes the grown-ups.

How to play

  1. Lights on: press and hold a spot to stick a glow star and charge it. Longer charge = brighter and longer glow, and each star shows how many seconds it will last.
  2. Your torch battery and your stars are limited, so light the corners, doors and noisy spots, and remember you have to get back too.
  3. Lights out: walk with the arrows or by swiping. Your eyes slowly get used to the dark.
  4. Bumps, creaks, toys and sneezes fill the noise meter. Fill it and it's back to bed!

The first level shows you what to do as you go, so there's nothing to read before you start.

Play together

Sneaky sibling: one player sticks the stars and does the midnight walk. While they look away, the other player drops three toys on the floor. Swap, and the fastest, quietest walk wins.

Is it real?

Glow-in-the-dark stickers use phosphorescence: they soak up energy from light and give it back slowly as a soft glow that fades over minutes. And your eyes really do get better in the dark after a while, which is called dark adaptation.

Good for

Planning, spatial memory and resource budgeting, wrapped up in a silly game you can finish in a few minutes.

Questions grown-ups ask

Do I need to download anything?

No. Every game runs right in your web browser. Open the page and play.

Are there ads?

No. There are no ads anywhere in the arcade, so kids can play without pop-ups or anything to click away.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Every game is built for touch screens first, in portrait and landscape, and also works with a mouse and keyboard on a computer.

Is it OK for kids?

Yes. The games are made for kids and the grown-ups who play with them. Spooky games stay cute: ghosts giggle and say boo, nothing gory or mean.

Do we need an account?

Yes, a NerdHomies account lets you play every game and keeps your stars and progress. It only takes a few seconds to make one.

How much does it cost?

The arcade is in early access, and right now every game is included with your account. We will always tell members before anything changes.

Can we play together?

Most games have a two-player pass-the-phone mode, and a few are head-to-head or party games for up to six.
