About the game

A spooky-silly Halloween party game about touch. The mystery box is pitch dark inside, and you can only feel the spot right under your fingertip. Is it fuzzy, slimy, bumpy or spiky? Trace its shape, guess what it is, and the lights come on. Some things are alive and wriggle away, and crabs, cactuses and mousetraps pinch if you rush.

How to play

  1. Slide your finger slowly inside the dark box. You feel only what's under your fingertip.
  2. Feel for the texture (fuzzy, slimy, bumpy, spiky) and follow the edges to find the shape. Where you've touched stays faintly lit.
  3. Tap "What's in the box?" and pick the right picture. Guess first time for a star.
  4. Go slowly: the ring round your finger turns red when you're too fast, and snappy things pinch.

The first level shows you what to do as you go, so there's nothing to read before you start.

Play together

Pack a box: one player hides something in the box (anywhere, even upside down) while the other looks away, then passes it over to be felt and guessed. Swap and compare points.

Is it real?

Your fingertips have thousands of tiny touch sensors. Sliding your finger makes little vibrations in your skin, so your brain can tell fuzzy from slimy from bumpy. Scientists call this active touch, and it's how you find your keys in a bag without looking.

Good for

Describing textures, shapes and patience, wrapped up in a silly game you can finish in a few minutes.

Questions grown-ups ask

Do I need to download anything?

No. Every game runs right in your web browser. Open the page and play.

Are there ads?

No. There are no ads anywhere in the arcade, so kids can play without pop-ups or anything to click away.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Every game is built for touch screens first, in portrait and landscape, and also works with a mouse and keyboard on a computer.

Is it OK for kids?

Yes. The games are made for kids and the grown-ups who play with them. Spooky games stay cute: ghosts giggle and say boo, nothing gory or mean.

Do we need an account?

Yes, a NerdHomies account lets you play every game and keeps your stars and progress. It only takes a few seconds to make one.

How much does it cost?

The arcade is in early access, and right now every game is included with your account. We will always tell members before anything changes.

Can we play together?

Most games have a two-player pass-the-phone mode, and a few are head-to-head or party games for up to six.
